Music

Guzheng

I had the distinct pleasure of attending a Guzheng (Chinese Zither) performance this evening. The performer was absolutely mesmerizing. Her hands were ever so graceful as they lilted across the strings, plucking, strumming, and bending them to create all manner of melodies.

She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from the Wuhan Conservatory in China, and has been living here in Iowa recently while traveling around the Mid-West. She plans to play in Vegas and Texas in the near future!  I hope to be able to see her perform again.

All of the pieces she performed evoke thoughts and visions of nature, and she informed us that the most famous and traditional music written for the guzheng are meant to celebrate the beauty of nature.

If WP will let me post a video, I’ll share one of her pieces soon.

Here are a few pictures I took (with her permission) this evening.  Enjoy the slideshow!
